Beer Sherpas.

Alas, the baseball season has ended for the Eagles, but it still drags on for the Dragons and the Nippon Ham Fighters can still ham it up for the fans. The Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters (北海道日本ハムファイターズ, Hokkaidō Nippon Hamu Faitāzu) were one of Tokyo's 3 teams, but moved to Sapporo in Hokkaido in 2003. It's their first time in the finals! They're up against the Chunichi Dragons (中日 ドラゴンズ or Ryu 竜) who stopped the Giants from winning the pennant for the first time in 10 years (I hate the Giants, by the way.)

But lets not dwell on the Japanese World Series, lets talk about those unsung heroes of the stadium the girls who trek up and down the stairs with beer kegs strapped to their backs. The draft beer sold in the stands is expensive watered-down swill (as it is in every stadium around the world) but there's something formidable about a mousy young girl with a heavy keg of brew strapped to her back dispensing the golden elixir to the thirsty masses. Now, my cronies and myself prefer to smuggle cheap beer or chu-hi into the game and have drunk anywhere from 2-6 in a given game. But it is a true joy to see these troopers running up the stairs at the whimsy of a wave by a needy fan. Here for your appreciation are some picks of those admirable young lasses in all their glory...
